Funeral held for mother, sons struck by train
(Trumbull-WTNH) _ An emotional day in Trumbull Monday, as a woman and her children killed in a horrible train accident were laid to rest.
Julia Toledo and her four sons died after being struck by a train in Fairfield early Tuesday morning. A wake was held for them Sunday night, and they were buried Monday.

Parades, ceremonies mark Memorial Day
(WTNH) _ Ceremonies are being held all over Connecticut and America today to remember servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
President Clinton spent the morning at Arlington National Cemetery, and placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. The President also urged Americans to pray for the NATO troops taking part in the Kosovo mission.
In Washington, five more names were added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall.
There were parades and ceremonies throughout Connecticut Monday to honor those who served and died in the US military.

Veterans battle for control of war memorial
(New Britain-WTNH) _ A group of survivors from the battle at Iwo Jima are fighting a battle here at home. They're trying to take over management of a memorial. Right now, Central Connecticut State University handles the Iwo Jima monument in New Britain. Neither side is willing to give up this fight.

Man walking on highway ramp struck, killed
(Bridgeport-WTNH) _ A man is dead after he was hit by two cars on I-95. Police say an unidentified man was walking up an on-ramp at exit 27 northbound at 9:30 last night when he was hit. Police say the area is under construction and there is no shoulder to walk along. Neither driver is being charged.
Gun stolen from cop car recovered
(WTNH) _ Connecticut state police say they have found one of the guns stolen from a state police cruiser last week.
Someone broke into a state police cop car in New Haven Wednesday night, and stole some guns, some paperwork, and a police ID card.
Police say they have found one of the guns, and they are searching the Mill River in New Haven for the others. Police say one of the guns may have been involved in a shooting last night.
Controversy surrounds state technology contract
(WTNH) _ It's bigger than the Patriots, New Haven Mall and Bridgeport development projects combined.
A $1-billion state contract is expected to be awarded early next month that is supposed to revolutionize information technology in Connecticut.
The state is in the final stages of negotiations with Texas based Electronic Data Systems, Incorporated. If approved by the assembly, Connecticut would become the first state in the nation to out-source all of its information.
Nut, the deal is not without controversy.

Group plans new lawsuit against Millstone
(Waterford-AP) _ Less than a month after failing to block the restart of the Northeast Utilities' Millstone Two power plant, an environmental group says it's taking NU back to court. Fish Unlimited says this time it's lawsuit is aimed at shutting down all three plants at the Waterford complex. The group contends NU is operating under an expired federal water discharge permit and has been for the last two years. But a company spokesman says today the company believes it has a valid permit.

Man recovering from near-fatal plunge in river
(Farmington-AP) _ A 22-year-old Hartford man has been upgraded from critical to satisfactory condition at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford after nearly drowning in the Farmington River. Luis Gonzalez was pulled from the waters at Tunxis Mead park at about 4 pm yesterday after two 16-year-old fishing buddies heard his cries for help. Police credit the boys, both of Plainville, with saving Gonzalez's life. Authorities say Phil Rothkugel dove into the chilly water while Tim Smith called 911. Gonzalez was semi-conscious when emergency workers arrived.
National Cancer Survivors Day
National Cancer Survivors Day on Thursday, June 3, will feature a series of workshops and a luncheon for cancer survivors and their families at Yale School of Medicine. News Channel 8's Dr Mel is master of ceremonies of the event.
