* Quarry diving turns up stolen cars
(Berlin-WTNH) _ An unusual catch in a Connecticut quarry. Police officers went "fishing for cars", and they caught several stolen or missing cars.
News Channel 8's Leon Collins reports.

Trooper Dean Griffin, Connecticut State Police: "Ideally what we'd like to do is have a crane of some sort to pull them out."

State police say a hiker tipped them off that this quarry was possibly a dumping ground for unwanted cars. Investigators say divers found eight or nine vehicles piled up under water.

Leon: "Why are they stacked up?"
Griffin: "They steal them and try and hide them they've been using the same entry point over on the other side of the quarry."

First up a '93 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Detectives say this four by four was reported stolen April 27th from Higganum. Police say clearing out the rest of the cars from the quarry will take all day.

Lt. Wayne Rioux, Connecticut State Police: "We'll determine who is the owner, notify the police department on the case, and we'll determine whether it's a stolen car or whether it's an insurance fraud car."

By the end of their search investigators found 10 cars. They say the cars may have been dumped in the quarry since before 1992.
