(Waterbury-AP) _ A Metro North train struck and killed a man Wednesday night, just a half-mile from the Waterbury station, a railroad spokesman said.

The man was apparently walking on the tracks just after 9 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound train, said Dan Brucker, a Metro North spokesman.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released.

No one on the train was injured. Passengers disembarked and walked to the station, Brucker said.

The commuter railroad was using taxis to ferry passengers between Waterbury and Norwalk Wednesday night. Brucker could not say when service might be restored.

It was the second fatal accident in Connecticut this week. On Tuesday, a woman and three of her sons were killed by an Amtrak train while walking on the tracks in Fairfield. A fourth boy injured in that accident remained in critical condition Wednesday night.
