* AmeriCares readies shipments to tornado victims
(Norwalk-WTNH) _ The death toll after this weeks tornadoes in Oklahoma is at least 41, but upwards of 50-people are still reported missing. That means the death toll could rise dramatically. Vice president Al Gore is touring the wide-spread damage caused by the dozens of tornadoes. Gore says the government will spend nearly $6 million to hire people to help clean up. Connecticut organizations are also reaching out to the victims in Oklahoma.
News Channel 8's Leon Collins reports.

AmeriCares is ready to start shipping supplies westward from their warehouse in Norwalk. Torandoes left more than forty people in Oklahoma and Kansas dead, and the storms destroyed some 3,000 homes. Present estimates are that more than 8,000 homes have been damaged.

Andrew Heyduk, AmeriCares: "Having assessed their immediate needs, we're sending three categories of food. First is food, water, nutritional supplements. Second category would be relief supplies such as batteries, blankets, diapers, those sort of things. And the third category would deal more with personal hygeine."

News Channel 8 spoke with an americares relief workers already in oklahoma.

Alom Marom: "It's been an amazing experience altogether as to how people have come together and have helped each other out. Neighbor helping neighbor. "

Marom says the widespread damage has made is difficult on the receiving end of relief shipments.

Marom: "With some of the destruction that has happened, warehousing is just not available anywhere, so they are really having a tough time finding places to store the product."

If things keep going the way they are AmeriCares say they will out grow this particular warehouse. The plan is to move to a larger location where they will be able to help more victims of disaster.
