* Friends, Family Mourn Teenage Suicide Victim
(Wilton-WTNH) _ The town of Wilton said goodbye to Sam Hingston Saturday, three days after the teen set himself on fire. As hundreds of friends and family remember the outstanding teen, they are still trying to understand his shocking death.
News Channel 8's Jocelyn Sigue reports.

As nature prepares for it's rebirth, the town of Wilton mourns the death of a straight-A student, a star athlete, who to everyone seemed ready to bloom.

Mark Ketley, Asst. Baseball Coach: "When you get 'em you love 'em. You want everybody to work like he'll work - like he did work."

With hundreds paying their respects many could only step into the churches doorway to say goodbye to Sam Hingston, the 17-year-old who took his own life earlier this week.

Ketley: "It was a beautiful service and it was a real tribute to him that so many people came out especially the bus loads from New Jersey."

Quite a turnout for a man so young who just moved to this small town a year ago from New Jersey. His friends from his former high school drove three hours to today's service.

Leah Garlic, New Jersey: "Sam was a very nice person and when I was always sad he was someone who was always there to make me happy."

Tellie Dwyer, Friend: "It's really scary. He was the best person in the world... Why would he be so unhappy."

Today friends and family carried flowers for Hingston, sat in solitude outside the service, and leaned against his car, still soaking in the shock of all of this. Wednesday Hingston doused himself with gasoline, swallowed some of it, and set himself on fire. Friends today still asking why and how his family can cope with losing him that way.

Katie Emery, Friend: "Their only son is gone and brother and they didn't deserve that."

Counselors were available to students after the service today and a large counseling session will be held Tuesday night for students and parents at Middlebrook middle school. There was no burial service. Hingston was cremated yesterday.
