18 year old Stacy Visconti is just back from spring break. The UConn student was one of 57 students who says she was approached by convicted rapist John Urban on campus last month. Stacy Visconti, UConn Student: "I think he should be in some kind of custody. I don't think he should be out on bail." This freshman was relieved to hear Urban, a 38 year old Massachusetts man, is now charged with stalking and disorderly conduct in addition to having weapons in his car. But being back on campus makes her and others uneasy. Visconti: "To know he could come and do it again he might have his court date but he could do something that could harm them." Melissa Rubertring, UConn Student: "People are still afraid he's going to come back. I can't believe his out on bond again." Urban was convicted of rape and kidnapping back in 1982. He recently lived in Billerica, Massachusetts, but many still want to know what was he doing in Connecticut. Some of the UConn students who say they were approached by John Urban say he looked like a grad student, even wearing a backpack. They say despite his arrest there are a lot of lingering questions. Visconti: "You don't live here, you don't work around here, but you're here. Where is he staying during all of this?" Megan Conger, UConn Student: "I don't know why they don't keep him in jail. It's very scary." UConn police say its task force is still investigating the other 54 incidents of Urban approaching students, but at this point there are no additional charges. Tuesday Urban will be arraigned on the four cases of stalking and disorderly conduct. ©1999 WTNH/WTNH-DT |
