Seymour Parents Suffer Further Loss
(Seymour-WTNH) _ Twelve year old Laura Cournoyer died in a skiing accident last month.
Her family and friends are still trying to cope with her death.
But, their pain has been made even worse.
Someone broke into their Seymour home last week and stole a shrine full of memories from her bedroom.
Now friends and neighbors are doing what they can to help the Cournoyers.
Cherie Fluegel, Seymour: "I just get a gut wrenching feeing when you think someone would to this prey on people when they're down."
If the pain of losing 12 year old Laura Cournoyer in a ski accident isn't enough to bear.
Her friends and family are trying to imagine how someone would break into her house, 2 weeks later,
and steal her prize possession of 100 beanie babies.
Diane Baklik, Seymour: "What can we do to ease the hurt?"
Diane Baklik is spearheading a community effort to help the family, and spoke for the Cournoyer today, who would like to get the beanie babies back.
Diane Baklik, Seymour: "They've lost her, and whatever is close to her is what they have left and its unthinkable."
Police say the break-in occurred last Thursday. The family discovered the girls toys missing from her room. A VCR and a TV were also stolen. But neighbors have already replaced those. Laura's friends are raising money selling blue ribbons in her memory.
Diane Baklik, Seymour: "They started being sold in schools. It it has really ballooned."
Others neighbors are delivering meals 3 times a week to the family, to help make life a little easier. There's no doubt that as young as Laura Cournoyer was, she touched many lives.
Diane Baklik, Seymour: "I just felt the need to do something to help the Cournoyer. Theres nothing any of us can really do I think it helps us more than it helps them."
