Deputy City Manager Dies
(Hartford-WTNH) _Ask anyone who worked with Henry Langley the key to his effectiveness, and the answer is always the same, he knew how to get things done.
John O'Connell, R-Hartford Councilman: "Henry was always the go to guy. He'll be sorely missed. It's a tremendous shock and loss to us."
Sean Conneely operates the food counter at city hall. He found out about Langley's talents first hand.
Sean Conneely, Hartford: "I came here about 3 years ago. I had a few problems in the back there. The water wasn't running and the faucets were breaking and I asked a few other people. I told him. The next day it was done."
Above city hall, the flag flies at half staff, inside emotions are running high. A grief counselor is available for city employees.
Linda Bayer, Assistant City Manager: "I think everyone is still in shock. It's kind of hard to get your mind around the fact that he won't be coming in. "
Langley was spending much of his time in recent weeks dealing with the controversy over fire chief Robert Dobson. The stress may have taken its toll.
Saundra Kee Borges, City Manager: "Was the controversy over Mr. Dobson wearing on Mr. Langley? I think it wore on all of us quite honestly. And I know in recent times it did concern him a lot."
Dobson wouldn't comment on the conflict but described Langley as a close family friend.
Robert Dobson, Hartford Fire Chief: "The last time I saw him was yesterday when he welcomed me back to work. He was here and we're gonna all miss him very much."
