Today, Amtrack introduced its new train to run on an all-electric line between New York and Boston. They're calling this bullet-like model the Acela Express, designed to breath new life into the railroad business. Amtrack is also improving accommodations for business travelers, dining cars, full bathrooms, outlets for computers, and more spacious seating. Of course it's most intriguing feature is speed. Acela's promise to get you from New York to Boston in three hours is welcome news to thousands of Connecticut commuters. Charles Beauvais takes the train from New Haven to New York for business.
Charles Beauvais, Guilford: "It takes me an hour and 40 minutes." Real estate agents say it'll boost property values all along Connecticut's shoreline. Thora Colburn, Beazley Company Realtors: "We are seeing some more interest from the New York area, from people interested in bringing their families here."
The train's popularity is also expected to relieve notorious rush hour back ups on Interstate 95's Q-bridge.
In fact transportation experts predict the essence of Southeastern Connecticut will be forever changed by this.
And so will the railroad business as it heads into the future.
