Windsor Man Charged in Alleged Gang Rape of 13 Year Old Girl
(East Hartford-AP) _ A man has been arrested and charged with participating in the gang rape of a 13 year old girl.
Carlton Smith, 25, of Windsor, was charged Friday with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, four counts of being an accessory to aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping with a firearm and risk of injury to a minor. He was being held on $500,000 bond.
The victim, from Manchester, told police she was held against her will on Jan. 25 in East Hartford, where she was raped by several men and threatened with a gun, investigators said.
Police would not reveal any other details about the crime, citing sealed warrants and the ongoing investigation.
Police said they expect more arrests.
During his court appearance Friday, Smith asked that his case not be transferred to Hartford Superior Court where more serious cases are usually tried. He was acquitted there in 1997 of murdering Windsor boxer Earl Anderson and has filed a $25 million lawsuit seeking damages for his arrest in that case.
Smith claims Hartford police beat a confession out of him.
Smith is due back in court on the rape charges March 30.
