Students collect goods for Refugees
(New Haven-WTNH) _ Teachers in Connecticut say the refugee crisis in Kosovo has really gotten the attention of their students. Young people are hearing about it in school, seeing it on the news, and they want to help. That's just what a group of students in New Haven did Thursday morning, loading up goods that will make the flight to Kosovo very soon.
News Channel 8's Leon Collins reports.

This group of students from the Celentano school in new haven has just completed their to project to help refugees fleeing Kosovo.

Jeff Gallishaw, New Haven: "I feel better sending it because people are hurt. they have nowhere to live and stuff."

Their teacher says some of the older special needs students actually supervised the packing operation.

Ellen Vreeland, Celentano School: "It's not only about current events and teaching them about what's going on in the world, it's teaching them what giving is all about and what sharing is all about."

Terrell Johnson, New Haven: "We put in the boxes a facecloth, candles, band-aids and soap. We want to help other people you know."

Bill Carey of the United Way says the food and commercial workers union actually coordinated this local effort. they've put together network of other unions who will also be shipping aid packages from Westport.

Bill Carey, United Way: "We're just one of the sources. We've got 500 pieces but I imagine there's gonna be tens of thousands of these things showing up at the office between today and tomorrow. The more the better."

Other Connecticut groups have also contributed to helping the refugees. Already tons of goods have been shipped to the homeless and injured.

Students say they feel better by being able to help out.
