* State Rep. Santa-Maria Laid to Rest
Man Leans over casket(Brookfield-WTNH) _ Hundreds are mourning the loss of Brookfield State representative Scott Santa-Maria. He became a police officer at age 19, a foster father at 24, and by 27 a state legislator. He took his own life earlier this week. Friday he was buried in his home town.
News Channel 8's Jocelyn Sigue reports.

Smart - principled - strong and dedicated. Today state representative Scott Santa-Maria was remembered as a man many looked up to. Today's service attended by top state officials and Santa-Maria's fellow lawmakers.

Lou Wallace, State Rep. 109th District: "We sometimes see people kind of one dimensional at the legislature because we're working so much. It's good to see to hear a little about their life back here back home with people who have loved them for years and it's a great loss for all of us throughout the state."

Funeral Funeral services today closed to cameras. Inside long-time friend and Brookfield first selectman Bonnie Smith asked that everyone respect Santa-Maria's privacy. That we no longer question his decision Monday to take his own life.

The second governor's horse squad lead the procession to the same cemetery where police found the 30 year old's body next to a friend's grave. Lieutenant governor Jodi Rell and many others unable to speak there.

The final salute today came from Santa Maria's colleagues on the Bethel Police force where he served eleven years.

Chief Jeffrey Finch: "He worked midnights just so that he could perform his duties as a legislator for the state of Connecticut."

Rep Wallace: "He was very tended to be a soft spoken a very friendly face about him and easy smile he was the type of person that made you feel comfortable. This guy really cared about people he was very committed to the best of public service -I'll miss him we'll all miss him."
