* Students Bring Pope's Message Back Home
(Hamden-WTNH) _ Some local students are back from a trip they say was a once in a lifetime opportunity - They got to see Pope John Paul II.
News Channel 8's Susan Hiland reports.

These students from Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden are looking at their pictures of the pope.

Tiffany Burns, Student: "The feeling we got when we saw the Pope as one of feeling of peace and love."

The girls are back from their historic trip to see the pope in St. Louis, a man they say is easy to relate to.

Marigrace Crosby, Student: "He is our leader and we do look up to him, but it was nice to think of him as a friend who could joke around with us. That was very powerful for me."

He did that with his sense of humor and spontaneity.

Katy Lyden, Student: "He was really funny and he was joking around about playing sports. And that next time he came back he was going to play hockey. He knew what to talk to the youth and how to address us."

During the youth rally the Pope's message to get more involved in the church hit home. Kate Bencivenga wants to start a teen group.

Kristen Judd, Student: "They relate to the kids. They hang out together. I want to have that sense of community in my own parish."

Along with inspiration, the girls brought back lots of memorabilia to cherish -- rosary beads blessed by the Pope, pictures, and tickets to each event. But what they'll remember the most is the Pope's unshakable faith.

Carolyn Heimann, Student: "He took the cross and was leaning on it. You could see how much he depended on God and trusted in Jesus' will and that was overwhelming."
