News Channel 8's Leon Collins reports.

Crowd at wake South Windsor police estimated that about 1,500 mourners came out for Brian Aselton's wake.

Cathy Sterling, South Windsor: "Once in a while we see something happening to a police officer, but to be close enough to know someone is just really, really hard."

Jeff Krawczyk, South Windsor: "The last few times that I did see him was in downtown Hartford. And then the last thing I heard was this. It just came as a big shock and really hit home."

Saddened friends consoled each other. Most of the people who stood in the line that snaked around the funeral home were uniformed police officers. They waited to pay their last respects to the fallen Aselton, who was ambushed this past weekend.

Commander Thomas Hart, South Windsor Police: "It's heartening to see this many people come out. We have a lot of civilians here. A lot of police officers here, fire officers from around the state. I noticed officers from Massachusetts - Springfield, Mass State Police - so they're coming from all over the area."

Family members hug Aselton's family said there were mixed emotions from the wake and the arrest of the murder suspects having on the same day.

Paul Munns, Aselton Family Member: "We're happy that these people have been caught, so they won't kill again, but it doesn't bring Brian back."

Funeral services will be held Thursday at St Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. 10,000 people are expected to attend.
