* Family Mourns Murdered Officer
Aselton(Glastonbury-WTNH) _ Officer Brian Aselton grew up in South Windsor. He's a former US Marine who at age 24 decided to serve and protect the city of East Hartford. In his immediate family he leaves behind a twin sister, an older brother, along with his mother and father.
News Channel 8's Jocelyn Sigue reports.

Peter Aselton, Victim's Father: "People have asked me do you worry about him being a police officer and I said no."

Aselton Family An Army veteran himself, Peter Aselton was proud when his younger son Brian joined the Marines, and just as proud when two years ago he suited up with the East Hartford police force. Last night Aselton heard the news that an unidentified police officer had been gunned down, and he had a feeling his son's superiors would come knocking.

Aselton: "Next thing I know - 15 minutes later they were at my door and I put two and two together: Of all the policemen in the East Hartford it had to be my son."

With few details from police Aselton can't help but wonder. did a New Milford officer's arrest for murder after shooting a suspect weigh on Officer Aselton's mind last night. Did his son have time to fire at a suspect before he was shot himself?

Filled with great friends, girls and fast motorcycles, Peter Aselton worried more about the safety of his son's personal life than the 26 year old's professional one. Like many young people Brian was fearless.

Peter Aselton Aselton: "He said to me one time if I died tomorrow I've already lived.

"I would like to take my son's place. I'd like to be standing in front of him.... (sobs)

Officer Aselton comes from a family of public servants. His twin sister Carolyn is in the Air Force. His older brother John is in the Air Force Reserves and is also a police officer in Torrington. There's a lot of respect for law enforcement in this family. Peter Aselton tells me he has no question that his son was backed up properly by fellow officers.
