After a 140 year absence the 'Lincoln Banner' is back in Norwich. Back, they say, in its rightful home. John Marasco, Norwich: "This is part of Norwich's history, it only belongs here, it can't go anyplace else, it shouldn't go anyplace else. This is ours". The silk banner became theirs more than a year ago, bought at auction for $35,000. For another $25,000 the city had this dusty relic restored and preserved. Ron Aliano, Norwich: "It had to be fumigated, it had to be cleaned inch by inch, they went through an entire process."
Joe Gaultieri, Slater Museum: "It's created a great deal of interest in the community and I'm sure we'll have a tremendous turnout through the period of the exhibition." From there, this symbol of Norwich's past goes to City Hall where it will hang permanently, not only as a source of pride but also as a testament to this community's spirit. Richard Abele, City Council President: "There's great things happening, and the rose of New England is starting to bloom again and people are taking pride in it, and the banner is a major part of it."
