* Car Careens Down Street During Robbery Attempt
(New Haven-WTNH) _ New Haven police are investigating a robbery this morning that ended with two people being taken to the hospital.
News Channel 8's Ned Berkowitz reports.

Wrecked car The incident apparently began as a robbery attempt, and turned into a wild ride with shots fired and two people injured, including one of the suspects. It ended at Grand Avenue and Clinton Street this morning around 8:30, as children were heading to the Strong School across the street and the Fair Haven Middle School down the block. Witnesses say a Camaro careened onto the sidewalk nearly hitting one woman. The car mowed down a tree, a street sign and a crossing signal as the driver tried to shake his attacker.

Police say the incident began about three blocks away at Grand and Poplar when the suspect approached the victim at a phone, and asked for a cigarette. As the victim left, police say the suspect tried to get in on the passenger side, and pulled a gun. The victim then grabbed the gun and dragged his attacker for three blocks. Police say the weapon was fired twice, once through the roof of the car. The driver was not hit.

Police are investigating whether the suspect in this case was also behind another robbery attempt several hours earlier this morning on Middletown Avenue.
