4 months of questions and doubts and speculation were erased Monday, when police announced that have identified the remains of James Connor. The 33 year old Essex man had been missing since August of 1998. His remains were found Sunday in Bates Woods Park near New London high school. They were discovered by a father and son who had been out playing with a remote-controlled car. State police spent most of the day at the scene, trying to recover remains. We're told part of the skull was sent to the medical examiners office in Farmington, where doctors compared it to dental records and positively identified it as Connor. Lt. John Mannion, Connecticut State Police: "He was found approximately 25 - 30 feet into the woods... and it appears he was buried, at least partially" The car Connor was last seen driving was found in a shallow pond in Waterford. There was blood inside, but police said there was no signs of Connor. Witnesses last placed Connor at the Black Seal, a bar in Essex. No word at this time on how Connor died, or if he was indeed murdered. ©1999 WTNH/WTNH-DT |
