* Questions Linger After Young Murder Witness is Killed
(Bridgeport-WTNH) _ There are some big questions today about the murder of an eight year old Bridgeport boy and his mother. 8 Year old Leroy Brown, Junior was supposed to be a witness in a murder case, and now the question is why wasn't he being protected.
News Channel 8's Judy Chong reports.

Chief State's Attorney John Bailey says Brown and his mother, 30-year old Karen Clarke were offered protection. Bailey says an officer was stationed outside their Earl Avenue home. But Clarke found it too intrusive. She also declined to be moved to another area.

Bailey tried to dispel criticism that the 8 year old boy was not properly protected. Brown was the star witness in the murder trial of 26 year old Russell Peeler. He is accused of killing 28 year old Rudolph Snead inside a barbershop. Snead was also Clarke's fiance.

Police aren't saying if Brown was gunned down because of that killing, but they did say that robbery was not a motive.

Sgt. David Boston, Bridgeport: "There were no signs of force, so obviously there is something else at work here. The house didn't appear to be in disarray. It was very neat."

Family members did not want to go on camera today. The say Karen Clarke was generous, hardworking and loving, and that Brown was a dynamic kid.

They are scheduled to be buried in Florida, but a memorial service will be held in Bridgeport later in the week.
