* Early Dismissals Have Some Parents Scrambling
(Branford-WTNH) _ When schools decide to have an early dismissal it makes it tough for parents who have to rearrange schedules to make sure their home for their kids.
News Channel 8's Judy Chong reports.

For kids, early school dismissal means more time for fun and games. But for working moms and dads it means hoping your boss will understand or owing your relatives a big favor.

Judy: "Who are you here to pick up?"
Andrew Cox, Uncle: "Picking up my little nephew."
Judy: "Dad or mom couldn't come here?"
Cox: "No, they're working. Everything had to change - had to cut everything short today. -chuckles-"

For other parents, it's 'thank goodness' for afterschool programs that can fill in the gap. The YMCA will pick up children if schools let out early or if the day is cancelled.

Cindy Aurora, YMCA: "It is hectic. We have the staff on standby. If there's going to be early dismissals for schools we call our staff in and they start their day earlier than usual."

Judy: Do you like getting out of school early? Leronte Meyers, 9 Years Old: "Yep... We get much time playing than working."

While some kids have activities to occupy themselves, what about other kids without their buddies around at home? For some, it's movies. Tommy K's video in Hamden was doing a brisk business during the day as parents tried to find ways to occupy an afternoon.

Jim Long, Hamden: "Renting movies is a good way to keep her busy and not too stir-crazy having to stay inside."
