* Northeast Part of State Socked By all Kinds of Wintery Weather
(New Hartford-WTNH) _ The winter storm that pounded Connecticut Sunday really did a number on the northeastern part of the state, which was hit hard with almost every form of precipitation imaginable.
News Channel 8's Kristen Cusato reports.

In New Hartford Sunday, a sleet-ice-snow mixture made the roads very difficult to drive on. A 4x4 lost control on a curve on Route 219, and jumped the guardrail. Another accident happened on Route 4 in Burlington, with many drivers sliding off the road when they encountered slushy ice.

So if you can't drive, some folks got where they needed to go by foot.

Sue King, Barkhamsted: "Little bit of snow, ice, rain, and it's not bad for running today."
Bob King, Barkhamsted: "The traffic is pretty light. Good for us runners. Sue and I taking our three mile run. The footing is pretty good."

Many thought there would be more snow, but it turned to rain and sleet in many parts of the state. Visitors from down south, like Carlos Freymann of San Antonio, Texas, aren't used to this weather.

Carlos Freymann, San Antonio, Texas: "I thought this was a picture perfect postcard, to be honest with you. It's one of those situations where you say this is what I thought New England was all about."

Still, those of us in New England cannot be prepared for everything. Litchfield firefighters had to evacuate 18 people from an elderly care center when the roof started leaking. Those patients and their nurses are staying at the Litchfield Inn tonight.
